Jewel Changi Airport: Sights, Skytrain and Practical Tips
Jewel Changi Airport is much more than somewhere to wait for a flight. Tropical gardens, restaurants, shops and attractions surround the Rain Vortex. The terminals also have free amenities and gardens, including Terminal 3’s Butterfly Garden.

A rushed stop between bag drop and boarding isn’t ideal. Changi is large and Jewel is in the public area. With a long connection, early arrival or late departure, it can become a relaxed part of your Singapore trip.
Quick tip: allow two to four hours for Jewel itself, plus all the time needed for check-in, immigration, security and reaching your gate.

Is Jewel landside or airside?
Jewel is landside, in the airport’s public area. Departing passengers visit before immigration and security. Arriving passengers first clear immigration and collect baggage if necessary. Connecting passengers must be eligible to enter Singapore to visit.
A short connection isn’t suitable. Jewel recommends at least five hours between flights and reminds passengers to be checked in at least two hours before departure. Allow extra time for crowds, baggage and the distance to your gate.
Rain Vortex and Forest Valley
HSBC Rain Vortex is Jewel’s centerpiece, falling through the glass roof toward the lower level amid Shiseido Forest Valley. Official waterfall operating hours are daily, 10 a.m.–10 p.m.; maintenance or events may affect them.
Forest Valley is free and open around the clock. A leisurely trail takes about 30 minutes. Large suitcases and trolleys aren’t allowed on the trails; use baggage storage.
See the waterfall from several floors. Lower levels emphasize its height and sound; higher levels reveal the roof, train and terraces. If time allows, experience daylight and evening lighting.

A free Skytrain view
The Terminal 2–Terminal 3 Skytrain passes through Jewel. It doesn’t stop inside, but provides a brief free view of the Rain Vortex and greenery. You cannot get off in the middle of Jewel.
Free Skytrains connect Terminals 1, 2 and 3 in public and transit areas. General official operating hours are 5 a.m.–2 a.m., subject to maintenance changes. Use the journey only if it fits your plans; avoid extra terminal trips when flight margins are tight.

Canopy Park and other attractions
Top-floor Canopy Park has paid attractions and playful gardens. Tickets may cover nets, mazes, slides or viewpoints. Check each attraction’s height, clothing, age and safety requirements, including mobility restrictions.
Canopy Park is best when you deliberately allow extra airport time. Before a flight, the free Forest Valley and viewpoints can be more practical, leaving flexibility without an entry slot or full attraction circuit.
Indicative prices checked October 5, 2026: international visitors pay S$8 per adult or child for basic Canopy Park admission. It includes Discovery Slides, Foggy Bowls, Petal Garden and Topiary Walk; nets, mazes and Canopy Bridge require separate ticket components. Check the official conditions for age and height rules.
Early check-in and baggage storage
Jewel Early Check-in Lounge
Participating airlines sometimes let you check in and drop checked bags earlier than regular departure-hall counters. Jewel Early Check-in Lounge is on level 1; Changi lists daily opening hours of 8 a.m.–11:59 p.m.
Advance check-in windows depend on airline and flight. Consult the official participant list and conditions rather than assuming another airline’s allowance applies. Special baggage has additional restrictions.
Baggage storage
If check-in isn’t available yet, store bags before exploring. Jewel’s storage facility is on level 1 beside Early Check-in Lounge and officially open 24 hours. Charges depend on size and storage duration.
Keep passports, medication, valuables and flight essentials with you. Allow time to collect stored bags before returning to your departure terminal.
The official Early Check-in page lists airline-specific bag-drop windows. Storage charges per 24 hours are S$6 for loose items, S$11 for small bags under 10 kg, S$16 for large bags over 10 kg and S$19 for extra-large items. Rates include GST and were checked October 5, 2026; see official storage information.
Terminal 3 Butterfly Garden
Butterfly Garden is in Terminal 3’s transit area, levels 2 and 3, rather than Jewel. It is free and open 24 hours to travelers with transit-area access. Tropical plants and a waterfall accompany, according to Changi, more than a thousand butterflies depending on the season.
After departure immigration, follow Terminal 3 transit signs. Leave time for security screening at your gate. From another terminal, check the current airside Skytrain or walking route, your gate and boarding time: the garden may be in the wrong direction.
Don’t touch butterflies or use flash. Humidity may fog a cold camera lens; let your equipment adjust.
The official Butterfly Garden page confirms Terminal 3 transit levels 2 and 3 and 24-hour access. Separately, check Rain Vortex operating and show times: the waterfall does not run all night.
Two-, four- and six-hour visits
Two hours, excluding flight formalities
- See Rain Vortex from the middle floors.
- Take a short Forest Valley walk.
- Have food or a drink overlooking the atrium.
- Return to the correct terminal.
Four hours
- Check in bags or store them.
- See the waterfall from lower and upper levels.
- Complete a Forest Valley walk.
- Have a meal and perhaps take the T2–T3 Skytrain.
Six hours or more
- Explore Jewel at a relaxed pace.
- Visit Canopy Park or another paid attraction.
- Enjoy a longer meal.
- After departure formalities, perhaps visit Butterfly Garden if you can access T3 transit.
These itineraries exclude your necessary flight margin. Connections also involve immigration, possible baggage handling and security on returning airside.
Reaching Jewel from the terminals
- Terminal 1: direct connection from the level 1 arrival hall.
- Terminal 2: use the link bridge; allow around 5–10 minutes.
- Terminal 3: use the link bridge; allow around 5–10 minutes.
- Terminal 4: use the official shuttle connection; T4 has no Skytrain service.
Follow current signs. Changi is efficient but large: reaching your gate involves more than simply traveling from Jewel to your terminal.
Arrival or departure day?
An early arrival can work if hotel check-in isn’t available and you have energy. Consider jet lag and luggage. Store bags and choose a short route; after an overnight flight, going straight to your accommodation may be wiser.
On departure day, arriving early gives more control. Use participating early check-in or storage. Work backward from a fixed finish time, including bag collection, terminal travel, check-in, immigration, security and your gate walk.
Dining and shopping
Jewel offers Singaporean and international restaurants, cafes and shops. Popular venues can have lunch and dinner lines. Pick one or two options and locate their floors beforehand; searching around the atrium takes time.
Local dishes don’t require the most expensive waterfall-view restaurant. Terminals have landside and airside dining too. Buy liquids and bulky souvenirs only after checking security and cabin baggage restrictions.
Children and accessibility
Elevators and wide routes help families, although the waterfall area can be crowded. Agree on a recognizable meeting place with children. Check Canopy Park age, height and supervision rules before buying.
Travelers with limited mobility can see the waterfall from several accessible levels. Forest Valley has elevation changes; choose a short route and ask about suitable elevators. Arrange flight assistance separately.
Practical tips
- Check terminal, check-in deadline and gate before planning Jewel.
- Photograph your baggage storage receipt.
- Keep passport and boarding pass accessible.
- Use official screens or the airport app for gate updates.
- Eat outside peak times for a waterfall view.
- Bring a light layer for air conditioning.
- When uncertain, head airside earlier: extra Jewel time isn’t worth flight stress.

Internet and eSIM on arrival
Check your internet connection before leaving Changi. Mobile data helps with hotel directions, MRT information and reservations. Airport Wi-Fi is available, but your own connection is useful once you leave.
Install an eSIM before departure and activate according to the provider’s instructions after arrival. Check phone compatibility, data needs and when validity begins. Save installation instructions offline and don’t delete your usual SIM profile.
Frequently asked questions
Can you visit Jewel on a connection?
Yes, if eligible to enter Singapore and with enough time for immigration and returning airside. Jewel recommends at least five hours between flights.

No. The T2–T3 service passes through, providing views without a Jewel station.
Can you drop bags early?
Participating airlines offer Jewel Early Check-in with airline-specific time windows. Paid storage is an alternative.
Is Butterfly Garden in Jewel?
No. It is airside in Terminal 3, levels 2 and 3, and requires transit-area access.
